Hao Ran continued his strong start to the Tour of China 1 with a top-30 finish in the stage two time trial in Chengde Yongqian.

The 21-year-old crossed the line 31-seconds down on stage winner Mirco Maestri (Bardiani CSF), but was the first Chinese rider home and now moves into the white jersey for the best Chinese rider on the general classification.

Hao Ran:
“After yesterday’s stage I was happy with my form, but not sure about my chance of winning the white jersey in the time trial, however I was ready to try my best today.”

“In the time trial I had a very good start, but then my pedal hit the road at one corner, that made me quite nervous and I had to slow down a little bit at the other corners after that. Without that mistake I would have made a better time.”

“Now I have a 10 seconds lead on the white jersey classification and that’s certainly not secure with four more stages to go. I think I’ll have to go into the breakaway and collect some more bonus seconds.”

Dave Sanders (Sports Director):
“Hao Ran did a good ride and we also lead the Chinese teams and are joint second in the Asian team standings. There’s still a long way to go but it’s a good start.”

“We will try to send Ran into the breakaway and get some more bonus seconds in the next stages. That won’t be easy, but we will certainly give it our best shot!”
