Youngster Ran Hao put in an impressive ride to climb to 14th on a punishing stage six of the Tour of Fuzhou in Yun Ding.
The 21-year-old clung onto the leading group up the final ramp to the finish before eventually being distanced with less than one-kilometre remaining and rolled home just 30-seconds down on stage winner Jambaljamts Sainbayar (FCT).
James Oram and Jiankun Liu crossed the line 16-seconds behind their Mitchelton-BikeExchange teammate to help maintain the team’s lead in the best Chinese team classification, while the squad also continue to sit second in the overall team’s standings heading into the final stage.
“I had confidence in myself at the beginning of the Tour of Fuzhou, but after 5 hard stages I was not so sure about my form at the start of today’s queen stage.”
“In the first half of the stage I was not feeling good, even hard to follow the peloton. Brayan Chaves gave me a lot of help with feeding and keeping my position. Fortunately, I found my tempo right before the final climb.”
“Our biggest goal of the stage was the team’s classification, so I knew I had to try my best to keep up with the first group. After many attacks I lost contact with other climbers with less than 1km to go, but still I’m very happy with my performance today and my 20th place on GC.”
