The sprinters returned to the fore on stage five of the Tour of China as the fast men took their chance in Nanxian.

After a shock win for the breakaway on stage four, the sprint teams made sure they didn’t make the same mistake twice, controlling the day and setting up for a sprint finish, with Marco Benfatto (Androni Giocattoli – Sidermec) taking the victory.

Ran Hao held onto his white jersey for the best Chinese rider on the general classification and heads into the final day of the Tour of China 1 on top. Saturday’s stage six will see the peloton head into the Jiuyi Mountain National Forest Park, with the first categorised climbs of the race on the menu.

Ran Hao:
“It was a relatively easy stage today. All of us have recovered from yesterday’s crash and could finish the race in the peloton. Saturday will be the final stage of Tour of China I and it won’t be easy. We must be very focused to keep my white jersey.”
